We understand that when emergencies arise, you need to be seen as soon as possible and we leave open time in our schedule to accommodate emergency patients (this includes new patients, or patients we have never seen before in our office).
If you need help after business hours, we have an on-call staff member that will be able to assist you. If you cannot reach our office and you are having an emergency, call 911.
Common dental emergencies that may occur are:
You may need an emergency dentist if:
Toothache – you have tried brushing, flossing, and swishing with mouth rinse, and your tooth still hurts. It is possible your tooth has an infection and you may need emergency dental treatment. Typically, symptoms of a tooth infection include lingering pain to hot or cold, pain when biting on the affected tooth, or the tooth randomly throbbing on its own, even without exposure to hot, cold, or biting pressure. Please call Red Rock Family Dentistry immediately at (405) 733-8136 for an emergency appointment.
Swelling of the jaw or other facial structures – you notice swelling around your jaw, around your mouth, or inside of your mouth. If you are having trouble swallowing or breathing, call 911 immediately.
A permanent tooth fell out – If this happens, do not handle the tooth by the root; instead, handle the tooth by grabbing the crown of the tooth, or the part that typically shows inside of the mouth. If the tooth is covered in debris, rinse it gently in water. Then, if possible, position the tooth back inside the socket, and keep it stable with a washcloth or gauze.
If you can’t fit the tooth into the socket, you can store the tooth inside your cheek, which will keep it moist with saliva, or you can place the tooth in a container with cold milk. Time is of the essence; the quicker you can get to our office, the better your chance of saving the tooth! Call Red Rock Family Dentistry immediately at (405) 733-8136.
Chipped or broken tooth – When a tooth breaks, it can be a painful situation or it may not cause any pain at all. Regardless of the level of pain, you should still contact Red Rock Family Dentistry for an appointment to examine the damage. Sometimes with early intervention, more extensive treatment can be avoided. If you can find the fragment of tooth that broke off, place it in a clean container in cold milk and bring it to the office with you.
By becoming a patient at Red Rock Family Dentistry and having routine dental check-ups, dental emergencies that result in pain or expensive dental treatment can usually be avoided. At your regular visits, we will check your teeth to make sure they are healthy and free of decay. Call our office at (405) 733-8136.
